Mike Borchard (BORCH) is a photographer of Wild Places and Unconventional People
Guided by a deep love for the ocean and the outdoors, Mike’s work is a reflection of connection. Connection to nature, to our shared humanity, and to the parts of ourselves that feel most alive outside.
As a lifelong participant in many of the activities he photographs, Borch draws from a wealth of personal experiences to inform and inspire his work. These decades of outdoor experience also allow him access to challenging environments. He’s dragged cameras hundreds of feet below the ocean’s surface, to the tops of remote mountain peaks, and nearly everywhere in between.
Trust is an essential part of his process. By building a human connection with his subjects,
Mike is able to create images that are honest, immersive, and dynamic. By building trust with his clients, Borch has earned the freedom to explore his vision within the client’s creative framework.
Mike’s workflow is adaptable to fit the needs of various commercial productions. He has directed full crews of 50+ people, built nimble teams to push deep into wilderness locations, and shot behind motion units on large broadcast productions (STILLS, you have TWO minutes!!).
After nearly a decade of creating commercial imagery and making friends around the globe, Borch is still as fired up as ever to be making pictures for a living.
‘Work hard, be kind, and feed the crew!’
